Step One

Our first step is to find some old books. These can be from anywhere!! We found ours in our local recycling center. These particular books are not something I would read and someone else was getting rid of them so it was a WIN/WIN for this project! ((FREE)) If you do not have a recycle center nearby, you can always pick up paperback books at your local thrift store or keep an eye out at garage sales. (Be sure to check that box of freebies people put out by the curb as well!)

You can create this look with hard cover books as well. The spine tears off differently so we chose to go with paperback books because we liked the look of a clean tear for this particular book set. Both would be great and have their place for lots of different uses.

Side Note ~ Books are one thing that remains on our list of freebies that we just don’t pass up! Check out our ‘LIST OF TOP 10 FREEBIES YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BRING HOME WITH YOU’ !!

Step Two

Choose two-four books about the same size that stack well and then go ahead and tear off the book cover. There is no real science to this step and tearing apart books is always the fun part!! Also, it never hurts to have a few extra books ~ just in case you don’t love the way it looks once the cover is removed.

Step Three

For painting the books white, you can do it a few different ways. We like adding Gesso to the book first to add a nice texture and help the pages to not absorb the white paint as much. It is definitely not a mandatory step, the book can just be painted white with acrylic paint too. Go ahead and experiment with the gesso, the paint, or even leaving the books as is, without any paint added. Use the look you like best and go with it!

Step Four

Lastly, choose stamps that will fit on the spine of the book and lay out your words before stamping the letters. It is best to be sure you have the placement how you like it before you stamp it on. You can tie your books together with jute before stamping them or after, whichever you prefer. Have FUN! Get creative!! Google different quotes to determine what words you want on the books and make lots!! You can also paint or Sharpie the letters on! These are super inexpensive to create and can be used in combination with lots of different decor styles.

And there you have it!! You now have yourself stamped book sets for very little $$. We would love to see what you have been working on, so send us your stamped book photos on any of our social media platforms.
