Step One

The first thing is to find some wood. For ours, we used a 2” X 4” that was cut down to about 5-6” long. You can use a longer or shorter piece of wood, depending on how tall you want your ‘home’ to be. We cut the top of the 2x4 using a miter saw and keeping the same angle for both sides (reversed) and making the center point off just a bit so it was asymmetrical.

Step Two

Sand and Paint. We sanded the edges using an orbital sander and/or 1” belt sander. You can also do this with a sanding black. We just want to smooth all the edges and round slightly if desired. The next step is to paint the board white and, once dry, sand the edges for distressed effect.

Step Three

Tie your jute around the house and hot glue it in the back to hold. Add a heart where the strands intersect using hot glue as well. This is where you can get creative. Use different colored yarn (rather than jute), change out the heart for seasons, using a clover or bunny for the upcoming seasons. Add the word ‘home’ or ‘love’ or anything that makes it your own. Be creative and BE YOU!!! We would love to see your creations so send us your home photos on any of our social media platforms.
